Why has my denture broken?

There are many reasons as to why a denture can break.
Accidental:
Firstly, it is common for people to drop their dentures causing the denture to have a hairline fracture or even break completely into pieces. If you are not using your denture, it is best to store them in a box to protect them. Another great tip is whilst you are cleaning your dentures, clean them over a sink full of water. This means that if you drop your denture whilst cleaning them, the water will break the impact of the drop.
Wear and Tear:
A denture acts as natural teeth and takes on a lot of pressure over time from biting, chewing and grinding down foods which causes the denture teeth to wear down and the acrylic to weaken. This can eventually cause the denture to have hairline fractures or even break completely. If this is the reason for the denture breaking, a denture repair will often be recommended as a temporary solution and a new denture to be constructed.
Incorrect Fit:
If your denture does not fit correctly or if your bite is incorrect, the denture can be moving around in your mouth too much or could be causing uneven/unnecessary pressure. The denture will then likely develop small cracks or break completely.
Can we repair your dentures?
We are absolutely happy to help if you require a denture repair!
Denture repairs are a service we offer here to the public at North Wilts Dental Laboratory in Swindon, Wiltshire.
Please note that we do NOT advise using any form of glue/adhesive at home to fix your denture, even on a temporary basis.
Firstly, glues/adhesives contain toxic chemicals so could cause harm to the gums.
Secondly, the superglue can damage the area where the denture has fractured and cause it to be unrepairable.
